Inky Creations with April

Sharing my love of handmade cards and papercraftting

December 12, 2020

Hello Crafty Friends! I hope you are all finding time to enjoy this holiday season. Today’s card is from the Easy Die Cutting Techniques class. This class was taught by Yana Smakula. I love Yana. She is so talented and her cards are amazing. As Yana’s class teaches, dies can be used in so many ways and are so worth the investment.

I used the Clover Build a Flower set, the Geo Steps 3D Embossing Folder, and grabbed my sentiment from the Balloon Flower Build a Flower Set for this project. I love all the white on this card and the texture from the embossing folder and the die cut image. However, I learned capturing all that texture on white in photos can be challenging.

I began by using a stamp positioner to stamp my image with Rose Quartz, Puffy Heart, Rubellite and Razzleberry for the flower, with Firefly, Grass Field, and Shadow Creek Mini Ink Cubes from Altenew for the leaves. I stamped the images on two pieces of A2 cardstock. It was very important that the images on both pieces of cardstock were in the exact same spot so using a stamp positioner was very important. I also used a mask on the flower when I stamped the leaves. After these were both stamped , I used the dies and cut the flower, stem and leaves from one of the stamped A2 cardstock pieces. After die cutting I was left with no stamped image on the cardstock just the negative space from the dies. I then used the proper sandwich for my Spellbinders Platinum 6 Die Cutting machine to use the Geo Steps 3D Embossing Folder. I embossed the piece that I had die cut the images from as this would be the top of my card.

I then used foam tape for some dimension and mounted this over the piece of cardstock with my stamped image on it. The die cut space fit perfectly allowing the stamped image to show. I embossed the sentiment with some Pure White Crisp Embossing Powder from Altenew on some scrap black cardstock before mounting it on the card. This was all mounted on a heavy weight top folding card base. I kept it simple and choose not to add anything else, although I think a little sparkle on the flower and leaves would be fun too.

I hope you enjoyed this card and got a little inspiration. Happy crafting!!
